The Pros and Cons of Renting
Published on Tuesday, 09 February 2010 Renting a house is not for everybody, because as with everything, there are certain advantages and disadvantages to it that will not sit well with everybody. This is why you need to be aware of the pros and cons of renting so you know if it's the kind of arrangement that would benefit you. One factor that you should remember is that when you rent, you are not the owner, you are simply a tenant bound to the rules the contract you signed has stipulated. This actually can either be a pro or con, depending on how you think of it. It's an advantage to somebody who does not want to be burdened by the responsibility of owning their own place - maintenance and taxes are just some of the things you need to manage completely on your own if you own the place. However, it is a disadvantage to people who like to modify their place - while you can do some minor changes to your space, you need the approval of the landlord if you want to do something drastic, like paint the walls or have the bathroom complete redecorated - and even if the landlord or the landlady agrees, you shoulder the expenses and cannot refund it if you decide to move someplace else.
