The population of the area grew rapidly as the town evolved with it growing from 1,724 to 11,600 is just over one-hundred years.

The town is well connected with the rest of London with many buses and trains running regularly. Ilford is the home of two non-league football teams; Ilford F. and Waltham Forest F. Inventor John Logie Baird lived in Ilford when developing the television. The area is not far from Stratford were the 2012 Summer Olympics were held.
