Hatfield is a town in the borough of Welwyn Hatfield in Hertfordshire, England. The town, which is also a civil parish, has a population of around 29, 600 people. Between the 1930’s and early 1990’s there was a large factory in the town which was responsible for giving jobs to more people than any other industry. Hatfield House is one of the most well known landmarks in the area, which originally belonged to the Cecil family and was later the place where Elizabeth Tudor was confined for two years. It is also believed that it was here in Hatfield Park that Queen Elizabeth I found out that she was going to become Queen after hearing of the death of her half-sister Queen Mary I. Hartfield House is a large country park and serves as a great place to visit. The earlier building on the site is known as the ‘Old Palace’.
