CR is the postcode area the London Borough of Croydon which covers nine postcode districts in eight post towns which covers some parts of South of London and northeastern Surrey. Most of these postcodes – CR0, CR2, CR3, CR4, CR5, CR6, CR7, CR8 and CR9 – include Croydon, Merton and Sutton. CR6, which we are interested in here, covers a small part of Reigate and Banstead. It was Croydon that after Norwich had experimental postcodes introduced in 1966. Basically they put in the letter O so that the postcode became CRO, but it was later decided that postcodes only should have two letters. So CRO became CR, but to let people avoid having to change their postcode CR0 was introduced for the postcode of the central area of Croydon, this is why CR1 never was invented. So Croydon is the only postcode area that has district 0 and no 1.
CR6 covers the little town Warlingham and parts of Chelsham and Farleigh. Warlingham is a village that is located about 14 miles south of London central. Most of the CR6 district residents work in central London or in Croydon which makes it a part of the London commuter belt – London’s metropolitan area – and also in the Green belt, located beside three golf courses. CR6 is surrounded by inclines of North Downs with meadowed hillsides and woodlands. This valley has been delegated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) which is a conserving label of a protected area in the UK.
