Tufnell Park is an area in North London and a part of both the Borough of Islington and the Borough of Camden. It is north of Charing Cross and it's postcode districts are NW5, NW7 and NW15. It is bordered by Archway in the north, Kentish Town on the south, Holloway in the south-east, Upper Holloway in the east and Gospel Oak in the west.
Tufnell Park was the home of a Roman road which was between the areas that are now Holloway Road, Dartmouth Hill and Hampstead Heath. The area was famous for it's dairy farms which supplied milk to all of south London. In 1753 William Tufnell became the proprietor of Barnsbury manor but his father-in-law Sir William Halton. The manor no longer exists but it's gateposts are still present in Tufnell Park Road. William Tufnell made requests to Parliament to be allowed to develop the manor but he was denied. The area would be passed on throughout the family after William's death.
It remained rural until the 19th century when it was still supply milk all over London. Major housing construction occurred from 1845, at first around Carleton Road and then in local villas and St. George's Church. The homes were used by merchants and music hall performers. The emerging railway created links transport with the rest of London. Tufnell Park is known for it's sense of humour with it appearing in various comedic works by comedians Julian and Sandy, the television show Spaced, among others.
