Gants Hill is in the London Borough of Redbridge. It’s thought that the name comes from the  le Gant family who appeared in the areas as landowners in 1291. The area is mostly residential and sits just far enough out of the city to be a calming commuter area for workers in the capital. With the excellent transport links by road, tube and bus it is a short trip into work or the multitude of shops, bars and entertainment areas on the weekends.

Just to the east is Newbury Park. This used to be the site of two of the major hospitals in the capital; the King George V and Ilford Maternity but both have been demolished and replaced by flats as London continues to expand. A new hospital, also called King Gerge V has been opened a little further east in Little Heath. There is a prominent Jewish community here, as evidenced by the two synagogues in this part of Greater London which, until 1965 was considered part of the county of Essex.
